Hallo zusammen,

Protect Treasure Island’s World Class Beaches

Help Save Treasure Island’s Tourism

The Undersigned stand together to

Protect Treasure Island Beach AGAINST the City’s Policies of:

1. Allowing Vehicles to Drive and Park on our Pristine Beach.

2. Allowing Large Scale Events and Structures that Threaten our Natural Beach Environment and Reputation of having a World-Class Beach.

The beaches are held in trust by the state for the public as a natural resource of the state and are protected under the Constitution.

Florida’s Constitution, Article II Section 7 (a) states as follows:

“It shall be the policy of the state to conserve and protect its natural resources and scenic beauty. Adequate provision shall be made by law for the abatement of air and water pollution and of excessive and unnecessary noise and for the conservation and protection of natural resources.”

We have witnessed hundreds of cars lined up on the beach, tractor trailers parking and moving in and out of the area, and dunes being moved to create informal roads to accommodate vehicles. At night and even during sea turtle nesting season which is currently underway. Large Events and associated Parking compact and cement the sand, prevent sea oats from establishing, and overall alter the structure of the beach, potentially increasing rates of erosion. They pose safety concerns, noise concerns, pollution, and disrupt nesting and resting activities for endangered turtles and shorebirds.

Taxpayers have paid for these beaches to be Re-Nourished- The City is misusing a beach that is protected for public use. There would never have been room on the beach to hold large events and their associated parking lots on the beach had the beach not been re-nourished.

Ultimately, the Island’s reputation as a World-Class Destination for Residents and Visitors that is based on pristine beaches is being sacrificed. The beaches are losing business from patrons who come to stay on a BEACH, NOT a fairground or worse a parking lot.

We favor Events that incorporate Treasure Island Beaches greatest natural and unique Assets! The elements of : Wind, Sand and the Ocean.

Public Parking on the beach destroys the natural beach experience.

The City has a public park across the street from the beach that is better suited for some events that could disrupt the traditional, customary use of our beaches.

Our Beautiful Unspoiled Beaches ARE the Attraction that brings visitors to our Island and must be nourished and preserved, not abused unnecessarily.

We ask for your support in our effort.
