Hi Leute,

Was meint Ihr dazu???

@Arno,

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We booked this hotel for our honeymoon and after reading some reviews on this site were a bit concerned but I'm glad we didn't change it. The hotel was really nice, the grounds were lovely and 3 swimming pools were clean and well maintained.
Our room was also great, we stayed in block 9, we were given a king room and hotel had a bottle of champagne waiting for us on arrival which was a nice touch! The room itself was clean and we had clean sheets and towels everyday and there was no funny smells. The gift shop is small but sells the essentials and we found the ice cream parlour to be reasonably priced.
This hotel is in a great location too, right near lots of good places to eat such as TGI fridays, Pizza hut and Uno, but the best steak I had was at Jimmy Buffets at City Walk, I would definatley reccommend eating here!
Overall an excellent holiday, we flew with Virgin and thought they were great, we got extra leg room seats for free and the air stewards were all really helpful, unlike mytravel who we went with last year!

We will definatley stay here again and fly with virgin

We have just returned from our holiday at the Wyndham and found it to be nothing like the poor reports it has been given sometimes. We stayed in block 8, which is at the back of the complex, near the pool and fitness area and the ice cream parlour!
Our rooms were clean and bright and were serviced every day with clean linen and towels. The air-conditioning worked perfectly and was not noisy and did not smell. The whole resort seems to be being refurbished at the moment and a couple of the blocks were closed for this.
All in all we had a great time and I would reccomend it to anyone - but ask for a room which has be refurbished already!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

I was a bit apprehensive about the hotel after reading some negative comments on this site & other hotel review sites.

However, on the whole we were pleased with this choice of hotel. I agree with the comments some people made about the smell in the room. When we were shown to our room there was an unpleasant smell. Soon discovered this came from the air conditioning unit. There were two pull out parts at the front of the unit which I took out & cleaned with some wet wipes. They were covered in very smelly dust. After I'd done that there was a vast improvement & 95% of the smell vanished!

Hotel staff were all very friendly & helpful, and we have no complaints there. Pools were nice (although I'm not convinced they were heated,as a bit chilly sometimes).Towels were provided for the pool so no need to bring you own. Also they gave out inflatables. We didn't eat the the hotel so can't comment on the food, except that it seemed a bit pricey.

It was possible to hear guests in the other rooms if they were a bit on the noisy side but I think this is the case in a lot of hotels. You just need to make sure you take plenty of earplugs to drown out the noise when you want to go to sleep. There were also quite a few inconsiderate guests who seemed to think it was acceptable to let their kids run along the outside of rooms at any time of the night making as much noise as possible, and who seemed to find it impossible to close their door without slamming it shut very loudly. However you can never be guaranteed what type of guests there will be in a hotel.

Across the road there was a diner called the Golden Corral, which served buffet breakfasts at $6.49, and dinners for $10.99 (less for kids). The choice was enormous, & I would recommend the food. Just make sure you go hungry. Also, Perkins was nearby,& was also very nice (but they have a menu rather than a buffet). Also ate at the McDonalds across the road a few times , as it also serves gourmet fast food.

If you are walking to these places take great care crossing the road as even when the lights showed we could cross some drivers seemed to think it was still OK to turn right when we were trying to cross.I'm not trying to scare anyone, but just make sure before you start to cross that it's safe to do so.

By the way, it was TOO HOT when we were there, and I wouldn't recommend going at this time of year unless you really have to or if you love feeling like you're standing in an oven all day.

Now for the theme parks - we were in Orlando for 3 weeks & still didn't see everything we wanted to! There is just too much to take in. Went to all the major Disney parks. Found Animal Kingdom a bit disappointing, and they closed really early at 6PM- AND it was high season as well! Didn't get to see everything because of that. Dinosaur was the best ride, but young children would probably find it a bit frightening. Parade very colourful.Had a very nice meal in the Rainforest Cafe at the Animal Kingdom. I would recommend it.

MGM studios was very good. Tower of Terror was our favorite ride. Also liked the Indiana Jones stunt spectacular & the Great Movie Ride.My husband went on the Aerosmith Rock & Roll coaster, & said it was quite good but nothing special. Also stayed to see the night time show FANTASMIC, which was very impressive.

Epcot was OK, but we found Test Track was quite tame really. My husband did Mission Space, & said he thought it was not scary & we all could have gone on it with no problems. Magic Kingdom was very good & the parade was very nice. Lovely shops to tempt you to part with your money (especially the sweet shop on the corner). I recommend the chocolate pretzels.

Favourite rides were: Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyears SpaceRanger Spin,Pirates of the Caribbean, & the 3D film Philharmagic was excellent- make sure you see it.

Also went to Blizzard Beach water park & briefly to Downtown Disney (but couldn't stay there long as our son wasn't feeling well that day & we had to leave early). From what we got the chance to see I would only go there if you really have the time & like to shop or play video games (in Disney Quest). However, Disney Quest was very busy when we went, but it was in the afternoon when we got there, so best to go early. Didn't get the chance to see Cirque du Soleil, but would have liked to.

Blizzard Beach was good. It's worth buying a mug when you 1st go in for around $10 which you can refill with soft drinks all day whilst you're there. You can also hire towels and lockers. Best to get the large lockers if you can, because even they weren't very big & I had to really squash the stuff in!You can leave your mugs, towels, sun cream, sunglasses etc around as didn't seem to be any problems with anyone taking anything. However, make sure you put real valuable in the locker.

Use the Fastpass system whenever possible to go on the rides. The only drawback is that you can only have one at a time, you can't store them up.
Overall the Diney Parks were very good.

Had free character breakfast with 10 day Disney World passport at the Polynesian Resort at Disney, which was really lovely, and we all really enjoyed it. You can make your reservation through customer services at the Magic Kingdom.

Also had a free meal at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal for attending the Virgin welcome meeting the morning after we arrived. Worth going to the welcome meeting for. Make sure you don't arrive at the meeting just before it starts though, as the reps see people afterwards in the order that they arrived for the meeting, so if you get there late you'll have loads of people in front of you & you'll have to wait ages if you want to get your free meal voucher or book tickets. Their phone cards are good value at $15 per card, which gives you around 45 minutes call to the UK which you can do through your hotel phone.

Booked a hot air balloon flight. Had to get up at 4am, which hubby & son were not too pleased about. It was interesting, and I'm glad we did it. It was enjoyable, but not to the extent that we would want to do it again.

If you're relying on public transport & are staying at the Wyndham then you do have free transport to Universal, but by the time it gets to the hotel in the morning (at 8.15am), it's very crowded & you're not likely to get a seat. However, standing up isn't too bad as it doesn't take long to get there. Taxis there (or back) are around $7 - $8 which is very reasonable. Didn't get the free transport to Seaworld as just used public transport.

However, it's a bit of a trek to Disney if you don't have a car (which we didn't). You need to cross over the road directly in front of Bargain World, and on the pavement there are two bus stops, one for the Lynx buses, and the other for the I-Drive trolley (the green bus). They are not too far apart so if you keep a look out for which bus is coming along 1st you can change bus stops if you have to.

To get to Disney you have to either get a Lynx bus number 8, or an I-Drive trolley, which both stop at bus stop number 38 (outside Sea World). From there you can only get the Lynx bus number 50 to Disney. The I-Drive trolly doesn't go there. If you get the number 8 bus 1st, make sure you are for transfer tickets to the number 50, as you can then use the same tickets again for the number 50 bus . It costs $1.25 each person for the ticket each way. Make sure you get a timetable for the number 50 bus when you get on the bus, as it only runs every 30 minutes. The number 8 runs more frequently.

The bus will take you to the transport centre at Disney, where you can either get a monorail to the Magic Kingdom & Epcot, or a Disney bus to the other theme parks.

On the way back when you get off the Lynx number 50 bus outside Seaworld, you can get either a Lynx number 8 back to International Drive or the I-Ride trolley (whichever arrives 1st). Make sure you ask the driver of the destination, as not all the I-ride trolleys go to International Drive. The fare is 75 cents each (children are free). The driver shouts out which number stop is next & you have to shout out if you want that stop. On the Lynx bus you pull the request bell if you want the next stop.

You can also buy weekly or fortnightly passes for the trolley.By the way, the bus and trolleys are sometimes extremely crowded & you may have to stand all the way back. The drivers pack people in like cattle. However, they are mostly very polite and helpful. Make sure you check the last times of buses from the theme parks, and the connecting ones, as we missed the last one when we stayed late at MGM to see Fanatasmic & had to get a taxi back (expect to pay around $30 to get back to the hotel).

You can't get direct to Universal by public transport. If you get a bus or trolly you need to walk some of the way so I would recommend you stick to the free transport from the hotel. Make sure you check the times on the bus stops outside Universal for the times the hotel buses go back, or you could end up with a long wait of you just miss one. We managed to get a seat on the occasions that we got the bus back, as the return buses are more frequent than the ones going, & therefore not as crowded.

Universal & Islands of Adventure were both very good. Universal was the better of the two in my humble opinion.

When we went to Universal we managed to see a lot by getting there shortly after it opened & doing the most popular rides 1st. Favourite rides were Revenge of the Mummy, Jaws, Jimmy Neutrons Nicktoon Blast, Shrek 4D, Terminator 2:3D.

We thought the best rides at Islands of Adventure were Spiderman, Hulk Rollercoatser, Dr Dooms Fearfall & Jurassic Park River Adventure, and also Duelling Dragons.

Spent 2 days at each park.

Also went to Seaworld. Worth going to see Shamu show, riding on Wild Artic, Kraken & Journey to Atlantis. Also saw Dolphon show which was good. You can feed & touch the Dolphins but it was very busy all day, even when the park 1st opened. It's worth waiting though.

Our son liked Seaworld better than all the other parks!

We wanted to go the Busch Gardens but were quite frankly too tired to go!

Went to Gatorland, which we enjoyed. Expect to shell out quite a bit by having your photo (or your childs) taken with various reptiles, and/or feeding the crocs and other animals. You need to spend approx half a day there. Made a nice change from the usual theme parks.

All in all a very enjoyable holiday, although at that time of year it is incredibly hot, humid & very uncomfortable. This can make people , especially children, quite irritable, so make sure you don't rush around trying to see everything, because you won't manage to!

We want to go back but next time will make sure we stay at a Disney hotel for 1 week (& I - Drive for the 2nd week),so that we don't have to rely on public transport to get to Disney from International Drive - it really is a pain!
Having said that, neither of us wanted to drive while we were there & we don't regret that decison. Perhaps at less busy times (& cooler times)of the year it's less of a nuisance.

Hope this has been useful. Have a great holiday & make sure you put on plenty of suncream, cos we used factor 60 & still managed to get burnt!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We stayed at the Wyndham for the first week of July. It was incredibly hot, but the weather was still beautiful, it was a bit hard to stick though, as the humidity was very high! The Wyndham was beautiful after you'd got a good nights sleep.
We arrived in Orlando from Northern Ireland (a 8hr and 40min flight) at 3pm (which was 8pm back home) so we were all exhausted! When we arrived at the Wyndham the staff were very helpful and friendly (especially Dan) You're taken to your room by car and then your bags are brought to you. When we first arrived in our room there was an awful smell, but we decided to leave it until morning! My mum soon realised our hairdryer wasn't working so she phoned down to reception,we then went out but when we got back it had been fixed.
The Wyndham has 3 pools, but we stuck to the same one each day. The pool was brilliant, it was quite big and rarely busy unless you go at night.
Restaurants that i recommend- Perkins, great for breakfast and dinner, Staff are friendly and foods nice! (just beside the Wyndham)
McDonalds- the biggest in the world!!! The cafe in the hotel did the nicest brownies ever!!
Bahama breeze (its a bit of a walk away fropm the Wyndham but it only took about 5 minutes!) it was a really nice restaurant with a lovely atmosphere!

We went to the Magic Kingdom- great for young kids
Universal Studios- Revenge of the Mummy was great, a good park
Discovery Cove- an excellent day my whole family loved it, we swam with dolphins and i strongly recommend it, it's expensive but it's definitely worth the money! it was an experience of a lifetime! the coral reef and lazy river were also great fun, do bring an underwater camera or purchase one there!

I had a great time in Florida and would definitely recommend it to everyone, i went with my mum, dad, sister and grandparents and we all loved it! We stayed in Clearwater the second week, but Orlando was definitely the best!!!

Quite a smart reception area and very pleasant well maintained grounds. The restaurant was very good with usual USA style very attentive service. We paid that little bit extra for the Wyndham but felt other cheaper hotels would have been equally as good. Worse aspect was the lack of sound insulation between rooms. Extremely noisy with TV and normal conversation intruding from adjoining rooms. Having checked with other visitors the hotel obviously has rooms available in other blocks which supposedly offer a better standard of accommodation. Not the standard of accommodation we have become accustomed to in 4/5 star hotels. More like a 3 star.

This was our 5th visit to Florida and as it was our honeymoon we thought we would stay somewhere that looked a little bit more up market that the usual International drive hotels (how wrong were we!)
The Wyndham palace looks great in the brochure and as you arrive it is very impressive looking, but as soon as you check-in you can see the staff are not very helpfull, We had 4 door swipe cards before we could get into our room each time we had to go up to the 9th floor to check if it would work, no one offered to help us and the third time we bought the card back to the desk they accused us of breaking the card!.
Half of the resturants are closed every day when we were there and the only one that served breakfast charged £18 per person for a full cooked braekfast. When we checked out they tried to charge £185 to my credit card for room service and resturant charges that we had never used, this took 45 mins to sort out, our shuttle bus had to leave as they had other pick ups and I had to speak to the on duty manager to make them pay for a taxi as we ad missed our shuttle,.
We will never go to this hotel again!!
We shall go back to the Roadway inn on international drive as we have been there 4 times before and its a great budget hotel.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

It was a real delight to stay at the Wyndham Palace. We can't praise the hotel enough. We had originally booked to stay at the Holiday Inn International Drive but after reading some bad reviews about it, we changed hotels and we thanked our lucky stars every day that we did.
The location of the Wyndham Palace was excellent. It was a maximum 5 minute walk to Downtown Disney with its numerous shops, restaurants and attractions so plenty to keep all ages entertained. The hotel was "Disney approved" so there were character breakfasts and free shuttles (which were always on time and very well organised) to all of the Disney parks so it had all the benefits of a Disney resort, without the isolation of some Disney hotels.
The hotel itself was very well maintained. Our room was clean, well equipped and we had a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and part of Downtown Disney. The buffet breakfast was very good but may be a little pricey for families every day so the Watercress Mini Market came in very useful. It sold cereals, bagels, muffins, fruit etc..which was a nice alternative to a cooked breakfast. We ate in one of the several restaurants for dinner (The Outback) which was fantastic. We overheard a couple when we were there that had eaten in the restaurant every night and said every meal was fantastic.
We can also vouch for the quality of the spa, which was brilliant for a relaxing day away from the theme parks. I booked a theme park leg relief wrap, anti-stress back treatment and french manicure (with a little help from a 25% discount voucher from Virgin!)and I would never have believed there was such an oasis of calm in Orlando. It was pure luxury and after the miles of walking around the theme parks, it was both relaxing and energising.
The hotel itself seems to attract a lot of business-people as it has a large conference centre but that's not to say that holidaymakers can't enjoy the benefits that it brings. The main benefit we found was that when it came to bedtime, it was peaceful. Although the hotel has bars and a nightclub, we couldn't here a thing of them and when you come back from a theme park exhausted and wanting a good night's sleep, we were able to get one every night.

We would recommend the Wyndham Palace to anyone. It was a fantastic place to wind down after the hassle of the theme parks, but with the convenience of Downtown Disney if we wanted to wind back up again!!

P.S. For anyone going with Virgin, the early morning check in at Downtown Disney is a lifesaver, esp when you arrive at the airport and see the queue for check in!!

This is our third visit to this hotel and our umpteenth! visit to Florida. We have stayed at Disney Hotels, at Downtown Disney and also onsite at Universal. This is a very good quality hotel in a very convenient location on I-Drive. We flew Britannia Airways to Sanford and upgraded our flight to their premium cabin. Worth the extra money. Sanford is a doddle to come into and we pre-booked a taxi via the internet for our transfer to I-Drive which cost $150 return for three of us and made the journey quick and enjoyable. The hotel is clean, the staff very courteous and the food in Augustines more than edible. We love Florida and especially Universal Studios - my son would spend all day on Spiderman the Ride.
We are due to go back again in December to see what Christmas is like and can't wait. Although we have treated ourselves to the Hard Rock this time - no queuing for rides! big bonus. Only tips I can suggest - use the I-ride and also if you can upgrade your tickets for Universal - its cheap and well worth it so you don't queue. The Premium Outlets past Seaworld are lovely to shop at and my son recommends the Florida Mall as the best for trainers. Enjoy - we do. My mum loves it just as much as my son. So all three generations happy!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We booked through Virgin as we were getting married in Orlando and booked the wedding package through them. The outward flight was OK - we had pre-booked our seats and were given couple seats at the back of the plane. The TV's didn't work properly and the service was OK. Our return flight was worse as the seats were dirty and again our TV's didn't work properly.

Picking up the car was easy at Orlando International although we were given no directions to the hotel or instructions on how to drive the car - this wasn't a problem as we'd been before but could be if you've never driven in the USA.

The hotel resort is beautiful set in lovely grounds - there was some major building work going on during our stay but this was at the side of the hotel and didn't disturb us during the holiday. We were in block 9 on the first floor by the pool - the room was average - they need a lick of paint - but it was clean and the complimentary bottle of champagne we received was a bonus.

The best restaurants have got to be Tony Romas for steaks and ribs and Red Lobster for seafood. Good for breakfast is Dennys and Chilli's is worth a mention.

Islands of Adventure is fantastic - the Hulk Rollercoaster and Ripsaw Falls were our favourites.

Cocoa Beach is also good for a drive out, and Oldtown is Kissimme is good on a Friday or Saturday night when the locals show of their hotrods and classic cars.

We also arranged through the travel company for a cot. When we enquired about this at the reception, we were asked had we booked one! We had to wait for one to be set up.

The hotel was classed a 4*. I would give it no more than a 2*. The final room was not very big, still had a slight smell, I had to buy several air freshners.

The grounds were far superior to the rooms and the staff were friendly. However we expected a lot more for the price.

If you are going to Orlando I would give this place a miss a pay that little extra for a Disney Hotel.

Orlando is great though

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The Wyndham Orlando is on International Drive, and in our opinion on the right side of I Drive. The hotels on the other side all back on to the Interstate which can be very busy.

The hotel itself is beautiful, set in gorgeous grounds. There are 3 pools with plenty of sunbeds and they supply cool towels so you don't have to worry about packing plenty.

The rooms are of adequate size and the bathroom has a great shower, very reliable and powerful. The air conditioning is a bit noisy, but so welcome given the very hot and humid climate in July.

The downside to the hotel is the thickness of the walls between rooms. My advice would be to try and get a first floor room or the thumping of people walking around above you gets a bit much, also avoid a room that has a connecting door to another room. In addition the gift shop was extortionately expensive.

The Gator bar at the poolside serves great food although the menu is limited. However I Drive is awash with restaurants and a special favourite of ours was the Sizzler as it has a good 'eat all you want' buffet.
Would also recommend a great little diner in Pointe Orlando the staff there were fantastic and you get excellant value snacks.

What can you say about the area itself, well we had a brilliant holiday and I would love to return in a few years. As for the Theme parks, don't miss MGM and the brilliant night time show of FANTASMIC. This show is unbelievable and has to be seen.

If you are going to Universal it is worth paying $25 extra each for Express fast passes. These mean they guarantee no wait longer than 15 mins. The normal fast pass systems here and at Disney can get frustrating.

Well worth the drive is Busch gardens in Tampa. Wonderful place, excellant rides and they have integrated the animals in very well.

Food in the theme parks was quite samey and expensive, but as with everything here the service is excellant.

I was worried about driving before I left. But once I got the hang of the car it was easy. Thumbs down to Dollar who didn't explain anything about the car when they handed it over. The car I had was a Dodge Neon, basic but still had the essential air conditioning. Petrol is so cheap and I almost cried when I returned home and had to pay the outrageous prices here.

Watch out for the signposting, you get very little notice about exits from roads, and several times I missed my exit from I drive, then turning around is not an easy thing to do!

We will be going back in a couple of years, but will have a villa. The amount of food just got too much for us and we wanted more control and variety.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Hotel reception said it all on first appearances - porter put all luggage on buggy, everything you needed to know was explained to you by a very friendly receptionist, you were then escorted to your room along with luggage. We had a family room, very large room with 2 double beds and a recess with bunk beds and a separate tv. Main room also had a huge cupboard for suitcases, purchases etc. This also hosted the iron/board.
Wyndham was very well situated for travelling to Universal/Disney contact buses (We didn't drive) Lynx buses to Disney are frequent and do run to timetables, taxi to universal costs about £5. Free buses run to universal, but Wyndham is the last pick up and the bus was known to be full before then.
We were in building 2 in the hotel, right on I-Drive, It would be a fair walk if you were in any other building apart from 1,2,3 or 16.

Hotel grounds are beautifully kept and the pools and surrounds are very clean. Free towels are supplied, but tend to run out later in the day (pool is open 24 hours).
Safety deposit is in beside TV unit in your room, is FREE and is large.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Accomodation excellent. - We had a family room. T.V /Safety deposit box / fridge - no extra charge. Nice pool with free hire of beach balls, Lilos, rubber rings. The hotel complex was lovely at night with landscaped gardens.

Hotel is situated on a very busy road junction on I-Drive but there are stacks of restaurants and things to do within easy walking distance.

Top tips.

Don't get ripped off by the travel agents paying £40-00 a person to get from Orlando International airport to your hotel, get a taxi - cost about $90-00 for 4 people there and back at the end of your holiday.

The free transport to the Parks often filled up so you could wait for it and not get a seat. (Buses collect from other hotels first).

For getting around on I-Drive use the I-ride trolley buses. excellent value. Contrary to popular belief you can get around easily and cheaply without a car.

You can get to Disney parks by going to Sea World on the I-ride (getting off at the Lynx bus stop just before you reach Seaworld) then catch the Lynx bus (No. 51 I think) to the Disney Transportation Centre, from there you can get to all the Disney parks. It's a little long winded but go native ! It's how the Disney Cast get to work.

If your staying at a Disney resort and feel trapped do the bus run in reverse !!

Best shows/ rides

Don't miss Fantasmic at MGM especially if you have kids - it's great.

If you like coasters try the Kraken at SeaWorld - sit in the front row, go on I dare you. The Hulk is great at Universal.

Top Top tip.

Relax you're on holiday. Don't feel you have to go to Theme park every day. Chill out by the pool.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Were very disappointed with first room and asked to be moved, this is worth doing if you get put in blocks 1,2 or 3. The room was small, dark and smelly!

Were easily moved to much better room in block 13. Rooms towards larger pool seemed to be better than those at front. Staff were very helpful. Room was ok but not huge and 3 rather than 4 star. Pool area was nice enough.

Do not use phone in the room , price for short call to UK was outrageous.

There is a large supermarket next door to hotel , south on I drive and on same side of street called Goodings which is handy.
